Taster sessions

Every first Saturday of the month we run morning Taster Sessions 10am-12noon at our Belfrey Ceramics Studio in Wellington. These are suitable for all abilities and are fun to explore with your friend or as part of a group of like minded creative people.

During 2 hour session you can choose hand building exercise (2 hours); hand building (1 h) & have a go on the wheel (1 h) or 2 hours on the wheel (subject to number of participants). All materials, firing, tea, coffee and biscuits are included. Your work will be fired and ready for collection within 4 – 6 weeks. Gift vouchers are available.

NEWS!!! We are very exited to announce that we will be running pottery hand building sessions from our additional location in Shrewsbury from September 2024. Taster sessions will be held at English Bridge Workshop Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY26AD. See booking page for more details.

Are taster sessions suitable for complete beginners?
Taster sessions are designed for complete beginners.

What should I wear?
You should wear comfortable clothes which you don’t mind getting a bit of clay on! Layers can be a good idea as temperatures can be a little variable. All students should wear comfortable, flat shoes with non-slip soles and covered toes. Long hair should be tied back for wheel work. We also recommend that jewellery, watches and other valuables are left at home.

Will we be provided with refreshments?
Tea, coffee and biscuits are included (@ Belfrey Ceramics Studio)

Do I need to bring any tools?
You will not need to bring any tools as we have everything you need at the studio. You are, however, welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer to use them.

Are there any additional costs involved – are firing included?
There are no additional charges for firing for the work completed at the studio during taster sessions. On rare occasions you may choose to finish/detail your work at home. For returning work or work completed outside the studio a firing fee will be charged depending on the size of the piece and current firing pricelist.

Is there free parking?
Yes. There is free parking directly outside the Belfrey Ceramics studio. We do ask that you are mindful when parking so that we can maximize on the space.
