Frequently asked questions
Are classes suitable for complete beginners?
We welcome potters of all levels including complete beginners. Our tutors will be able to teach the basic skills and help you develop as you progress. For total beginners we recommend attending our beginners course which is designated to provide basics for working with clay in variety of techniques.
What should I wear?
You should wear comfortable clothes which you don’t mind getting a bit of clay on! Layers can be a good idea as temperatures can be a little variable. All students should wear comfortable, flat shoes with non-slip soles and covered toes. Long hair should be tied back for wheel work. We also recommend that jewellery, watches and other valuables are left at home.
Will we be provided with refreshments?
Yes. Within all of our classes we include a tea break which includes a lovely selection of coffee, teas and biscuits.
Do I need to bring any tools?
You will not need to bring any tools as we have everything you need at the studio. You are, however, welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer to use them.
Is there a weekly plan for the classes?
Classes are delivered in a relaxed way and are not too rigid or structured. We feel that it’s important for students to be able to work on their own projects and at their own pace. All students will receive advice and guidance from the tutors.
What happens if I miss a class?
We are able to offer one catch-up session per month if you have to miss a class. Catch-ups are not transferable between months and have to be booked in advance as we have limited capacity.
Studio time – untutored time to catch up with your work between running sessions or on the first Saturday of the month 10-12 noon is offered subject to availability and tutors discression (fee applies).
Are there any additional costs involved – are firing and glazing included?
There are no additional charges for firing and glazing for the work completed at the studio during classes (max size 30x30x30cm). Work completed during classes exeeding max size will be charged extra firing fees. On rare occasions you may choose to finish/detail your work at home. For returning work or work completed outside the studio a firing fee will be charged depending on the size of the piece and current firing pricelist.
Is there free parking?
Yes. There is free parking directly outside the studio. We do ask that you are mindful when parking so that we can maximise on the space.
Do you offer drop-in sessions?
We do offer drop-in sessions for our existing students. Please check space availability for the session you would like to attend.
